Indigenous exhibit offers perspective in cultural shift.
One hundred years after the original A-Y-P exposition, the Burke Museum has organized A-Y-P: Indigenous Voices Reply, an exhibit that will juxtapose historic objects and photographs from the 1909 fair with contemporary artwork by Native artists to explore how the representation and understanding of indigenous people and cultures has changed over 100 years.

Michael Herschensohn, manager of the A-Y-P Centennial, will give a presentation that considers how world’s fairs create opportunities to imagine the future. The presentation will identify topics for a fall forum about the next 50 years in our city. What is the future of urban density and design, public transportation and historic preservation, global warming and cultural diversity, petroleum-powered engines and philanthropy, arts and education?

Seattle, WA - Model T Club: Model T Reenactment of race from New York City to Seattle07/12/2009

Greet the 54 Model T's arriving from New York in this 100th anniversary reenactment of the Ocean-to-Ocean Automobile Race that launched the automobile age at the original A-Y-P. Join Mayor Nickels, UW President Mark Emmert and the Ballard Sedentary Sousa Band at Drumheller Fountain on the University of Washington campus as drivers in their Model T's re-enact the original race. Cars arrive between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. before setting off to parade through downtown Seattle on their way home. This event will also feature a display of Electric Vehicles in Red Square organized by the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association.
